PDF Grabber is a conversion tool that can export PDFs to Microsoft Office files, images and HTML documents. It allows only one-way conversion; no file can be converted to PDF. The user interface is uncluttered and easy to use. Every file format that a PDF can be converted to is under a profi le, each with a number of output options. None of them, however, are customizable. The process is simple; add a file, click on a profile, select the output folder and range of pages, and you’re ready to export.
PDF Grabber takes quite a while to export and render every page, especially on older computers. The result, however, is pretty decent as PDF Grabber does its best to retain the original layout. Fonts are replaced with closest alternatives, but the converted tables are slightly skewed. Using the ‘text recognition by OCR’ option, we scanned a book in PDF format and converted it to DOC and TXT formats.
The conversion process was riddled with errors. The output was disappointing, with inconsistent text recognition, ranging from gibberish to inaccurate results. The formatting had been botched and fragments of text were randomly distributed in text boxes. For a conversion tool, PDF Grabber is expensive, and even the trial version is severely crippled. Every converted fi le has watermarks and the character ‘X’ gets added in almost every sentence.
